Discover the storytelling beauty of ancient Greek art with this impressive 80 cm handmade amphora. Decorated in white-figure style, this large ceramic vase brings together two evocative mythological scenes: Eos carrying Memnon, and Aegeus consulting Themis at the Oracle of Delphi.
On one side, Eos, the winged goddess of the dawn, tenderly carries the body of her son Memnon. Her sweeping wings and finely painted drapery frame a moving scene of maternal love and loss, inspired by the legends of the Trojan War.
The opposite side depicts Aegeus before the seated Themis in her role as an oracular figure at Delphi. Holding a shallow bowl and a laurel branch, she sits beside an architectural column that gives the composition the setting of a sanctuary.
Ivory-toned figures stand out against the dark ceramic background, complemented by floral decoration, palmettes, and patterned borders. Additional figurative scenes decorate the neck, while the tall handles, broad rim, and raised foot give the amphora a commanding presence.
Handmade and hand-painted in Greece, each vessel is shaped on the potter’s wheel, kiln-fired, and individually decorated. Subtle variations in the brushwork and finish reflect the craftsmanship behind every piece.
