This functional Pythagorean ("Greedy") Cup uses a hidden siphon: if overfilled beyond the inner line, it drains itself completely—a clever lesson in moderation attributed to Pythagoras. Rendered in the black-figure technique (7th–5th c. BCE), with silhouetted black figures incised for detail against the warm red clay. The main scene presents Goddess Aphrodite.
