Celebrate the elegance of classical craftsmanship with this amphora crafted in Geometric style. In antiquity, the amphora functioned as a storage/transport jar, blending practical use with artistic expression. It is a Geometric funeral Amphora 26cm depicting a funeral ritual. From the Dipylon cemetery, Location National Archaeological Museum, Athens, Greece. Date: 750B.C. Analysis: large size, fine potting and painting suggest a special commission for the funeral of a wealthy Athenian, possibly a woman. Elegant stylization of figures, complementing careful pattern-work (e.g., quadruple meander on neck), is a sophisticated development from earlier more rounded human forms. Note how the raised arms continue the isosceles triangle of the torso. Net weight: 0,8 kgr(1,76lbr), Height:26cm (10,14in)
