This hand-cast figurine in premium gypsum plaster depicts a Caryatid. A caryatid is a sculpted female figure serving as an architectural support taking the place of a column or a pillar supporting an entablature on her head.The first examples come from ancient Greek architecture and indeed, the most celebrated examples are found in the south porch of the Erechtheion on the acropolis of Athens, the originals of which are now in the city's Acropolis Museum. Each piece is cast and hand-finished in Greece, yielding crisp contours and a refined, marble-like surface with a subtle museum patina.
Crafted with archival-quality plaster, the sculpture is reinforced and carefully smoothed, then detailed by hand. Minor variations in tone and texture attest to its artisanal character and make every cast unique.
